Zaka Ashraf, Chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Management Committee, responded to Inzamam ul Haq’s resignation as the chief selector, asserting that Inzamam made the decision independently, without prior discussion with him.
In a statement, Ashraf clarified that he had not convened a meeting with Inzamam before his resignation. Instead, he had scheduled a meeting to seek clarification regarding the ongoing controversy.
“However, instead of a meeting or offering an explanation, he chose to resign,” Ashraf added.
The allegations against Inzamam, who stepped down from his role earlier on this day, arose from the revelation that he holds shares in a company owned by players’ agent Talha Rehmani.
This revelation has raised concerns about potential conflicts of interest, especially since Rehmani represents several of Pakistan’s leading cricketers, including Babar Azam, Mohammad Rizwan, and Shaheen Shah Afridi.
Moreover, questions have emerged about whether Inzamam’s dual roles as Chief Selector and a shareholder in a company representing top cricketers could influence player selection decisions.
