Gaza – Israel’s military has ordered Palestinians in Gaza City to flee south as its forces push further into the enclave’s largest urban centre. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, under pressure from his right-wing coalition, insists on capturing the city, calling it a Hamas stronghold. Yet this reckless offensive, waged against a besieged population, has created nothing short of a humanitarian catastrophe.
Before the war, nearly one million people lived in Gaza City. Today, after nearly two years of relentless bombardment, tens of thousands are dead, neighbourhoods lie in ruins, and survivors are being told to leave once again—many of whom had already been displaced earlier. Israel calls Khan Younis a “humanitarian zone,” but for Palestinians, these forced evacuations are collective punishment disguised as humanitarian relief.

Diplomatic isolation is growing. Even Israel’s closest allies are questioning a campaign that defies humanitarian law. Calls from hostage families within Israel for a diplomatic solution underscore Netanyahu’s political gamble—an “all-or-nothing” strategy that prolongs war rather than ending it.
The tragedy of Gaza has laid bare Israel’s disregard for civilian life and international norms. Real peace requires not further military conquests but an end to occupation, recognition of Palestinian rights, and genuine diplomacy. Until then, every new strike only deepens Israel’s moral and diplomatic defeat.
