Editorial
Pakistani cricket team needs to perform better in the ongoing Cricket World Cup being held in India. Therefore, the cricket-mad nation is criticizing the performance of the cricket team. Therefore, the equation requires more introspection and dissection. Pakistan faces a capacity crisis of organizations, and PCB is no exception. Therefore, there is a dire need to reform the PCB as an institution so that the cricket standards of Pakistan may be more competitive and performance-oriented.
The PCB should adopt a more democratic and transparent system of governance that ensures Accountability, participation, and representation of all stakeholders involved in Pakistan cricket. The PCB should revise its constitution and regulations to make them more consistent, clear, and fair. The PCB should also establish an independent and competent board of directors, a chief executive officer, and various committees to oversee and manage different aspects of the PCB’s operations and functions. The PCB should also implement a robust and effective internal audit and compliance mechanism to monitor and evaluate its performance and progress. The PCB should also ensure that its financial management and reporting are transparent and accurate.
The PCB should streamline its organizational structure and processes to make them more efficient, effective, and responsive. The PCB should clearly define the roles, responsibilities, and authorities of its staff, departments, and units. The PCB should also enhance its human resource management and development by recruiting, training, motivating, and retaining qualified and competent personnel. The PCB should also foster a culture of teamwork, collaboration, and innovation within its organization. The PCB should also improve its communication and coordination with other cricket boards, associations, clubs, players, coaches, umpires, media, sponsors, fans, and other stakeholders.

The PCB should invest in developing and upgrading its physical infrastructure and facilities to provide better conditions and opportunities for cricket development in Pakistan. The PCB should renovate and maintain its stadiums, pitches, training centres, academies, equipment, technology, and security across the country. The PCB should also ensure that its infrastructure and facilities are accessible and affordable for all players, coaches, umpires, and fans. The PCB should also explore the possibilities of building new infrastructure and facilities in different regions and cities to expand the reach and scope of cricket in Pakistan.
The PCB should reform its domestic cricket structure to make it more inclusive, competitive, and sustainable. The PCB should restore the old domestic structure that involved 16 teams, including eight regional teams and eight department teams, that competed in the premier first-class tournament, the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy. The old structure was more representative and rewarding for players at all levels. The PCB should also introduce more domestic tournaments and leagues for different formats and categories of cricket. The PCB should also improve the quality and standards of domestic cricket by providing better incentives and support for players, coaches, umpires, selectors, curators, scorers, broadcasters, etc.
Accordingly, it is not the cricket team but the cricket board that should be criticized for not performing and raising the cricket standards in Pakistan.
