Four suspected Indian intelligence operatives were arrested during a raid in Karachi’s Quaidabad area, police said on Wednesday.
According to SSP Mohammed Shoaib Memon of the Sindh Police’s Special Investigation Unit (SIU), the operation was conducted jointly with an intelligence agency based on a tip-off. The arrested individuals are believed to have links with India’s Research and Analysis Wing (RAW).
The suspects were identified as Mohammed Khan alias Gullu, Yameen Malah, Akhter Thaheem, and Ghulam Qadir alias Akash. They are accused of engaging in espionage activities and plotting acts of terrorism, which authorities say were thwarted with their arrest.
Weapons recovered from the suspects included two hand grenades, a Kalashnikov, a rifle, two pistols, and mobile phones. The mobile devices, suspected to contain sensitive digital data, have been sent for forensic analysis.
SSP Memon claimed the suspects had recorded videos and taken photographs of sensitive national sites, which were transmitted to RAW using encrypted software. He added that the suspects admitted to meeting RAW and Indian Border Security Force (BSF) officials in border areas and had received substantial cash, liquor, and expensive gifts from Indian operatives.
