Nobel Prize laureate Malala Yousafzai has hailed Afghanistan’s football squad as a beacon of bravery and fortitude, as she joined forces with more than 100 British lawmakers in urging the President of FIFA to grant official recognition to the exiled Afghan women’s team.

Taking to her official Twitter account on Wednesday, Yousafzai emphasized, “While the Taliban attempts to erase women from the public sphere, the Afghan women’s football team stands tall as a symbol of courage and resilience in their nation.”

The distinguished Nobel laureate expressed solidarity with Khalida Popal, the founder of Afghanistan’s women’s national team, and joined forces with over 100 parliamentarians from the United Kingdom, Australia, Portugal, and Italy. Together, they penned a letter to FIFA, urging the governing body to vehemently oppose the imposed restrictions and champion the freedom of Afghan women to participate in the beautiful game of football.
