National Meteorological Department Warns of Heavy Monsoon Rains and Strong Winds in Various Regions

The Meteorological Department has issued a critical weather forecast, predicting a substantial monsoon rainfall episode from August 14 to 18, with the most intense downpour expected on Independence Day. This forecast, which could lead to waterlogging, traffic disruptions, and power outages, has prompted rescue agencies to heighten their vigilance as the nation prepares for severe weather conditions.

The incoming weather system, resulting from monsoon winds from the Arabian Sea and Bay of Bengal combined with westerly air currents, is anticipated to intensify and significantly impact various parts of the country, bringing heavy rain, strong winds, and thunderstorms across multiple regions.

Regional Forecast:

Punjab: Major cities including Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Lahore, Faisalabad, and Sialkot, as well as other areas such as Murree, Galatia, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Talagang, Mandi Bahauddin, Gujrat, and Gujranwala, are likely to experience heavy rain, gusty winds, and thunderstorms.

Central Punjab: Expect significant rainfall with strong winds in Sheikhupura, Narowal, Okara, Pakpattan, Kasur, Khushab, and Sargodha.

Southern Punjab: The southern districts, including Bahawalpur, Bahawalnagar, Khanpur, Dera Ghazi Khan, Multan, Bhakkar, Mianwali, Khanewal, Lodhran, Muzaffargarh, Kot Addu, Rajanpur, Rahimyar Khan, and Leh, are expected to witness thundershowers accompanied by strong winds.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa: From August 14 to 18, strong winds and thundershowers are expected in Chitral, Dir, Swat, Malakand, Bajaur, Shangla, Buner, Kohat, Mansehra, Abbottabad, and Haripur.

Balochistan: Coastal areas including Khuzdar, Lasbela, Awaran, Kalat, Zhob, Barkhan, Musa Khel, Mastung, Shirani, Kohlu, Bolan, Harnai, Nasirabad, Jafarabad, and Makran are forecasted to face strong winds and scattered thundershowers from the evening of August 15 through August 18.

Sindh: The province will see strong winds and thundershowers in Mithi, Sanghar, Matiari, Umarkot, Tharparkar, Mirpur Khas, Khairpur, Sukkur, Larkana, Jacobabad, and Dadu from August 15 to 18. Coastal areas are expected to remain cloudy with light rain.

Gilgit-Baltistan: Intermittent rain with strong winds is predicted for Diamer, Astor, Skardu, Gilgit, Ghanche, and Shagar during the period from August 15 to 18, with an elevated risk of landslides in Gilgit-Baltistan and Kashmir due to anticipated rainfall.
