Netflix launches paid password sharing

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

Streaming behemoth Netflix is set to expand its paid password sharing option “more extensively” in the first quarter of 2023, according to Money Control.

The company has previously considered various methods to curb password sharing. A trial of this initiative was conducted in select nations, and while it may temporarily affect member growth, it is projected to ultimately result in increased overall revenue.

Netflix stated in its shareholder letter, “From our experience in Latin America, we expect some cancel reaction in each market when we roll out paid sharing, which impacts near-term member growth.

But as borrower households begin to activate their own standalone accounts and extra member accounts are added, we expect to see improved overall revenue, which is our goal with all plan and pricing changes.”

The paid sharing feature will permit members to pay additional charges if they want to share their Netflix account with people they don’t live with.
