ISLAMABAD: The National Institute of Health (NIH) has released a cautionary statement regarding the prevention and containment of Crimean Congo Hemorrhagic Fever (CCHF) and Primary Amoebic Meningoencephalitis (PAM), commonly known as Naegleriasis.

As per NIH, the institute’s Field Epidemiology and Disease Surveillance Division (FEDSD) has issued guidance to raise awareness among healthcare authorities for humans and animals, aiming to enhance and bolster preparedness levels in tackling CCHF and Naegleriasis.

Given the anticipated rise in human-animal interaction during the upcoming Eid ul Adha, there is an urgent need to remain vigilant and implement necessary measures to break the chain of CCHF transmission.

CCHF is an extensive ailment caused by a tick-borne virus (nairovirus) belonging to the Bunyaviridae family.

Numerous wild and domestic animals, including cattle, goats, sheep, and hares, serve as carriers of this virus.
