No Talks for Now: Iran Steps Back from Nuclear Dialogue with Europe

[post-views]

Iran has announced that it will not immediately resume diplomatic discussions with European countries regarding its nuclear programme, following the reimposition of sanctions by key European powers.

Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baqaei stated on Monday that Tehran currently has “no plans for negotiations at this stage,” emphasizing that the government is carefully assessing the “consequences and implications” of the renewed sanctions introduced by France, Britain, and Germany.

He explained that Iran considers the European decision a serious breach of diplomatic understanding, and therefore needs time to evaluate its strategic and legal response. The spokesman underscored that Tehran will base any future engagement with Europe on the outcome of this internal review, particularly how the sanctions affect Iran’s national interests and international commitments.

The renewed European sanctions, which follow ongoing disputes over Iran’s nuclear enrichment activities, have added another layer of tension to Tehran’s already strained relations with the West. Iran’s refusal to re-enter talks immediately signals a harder diplomatic stance, reflecting growing frustration in Tehran over what it sees as repeated European backtracking on previous commitments under the 2015 nuclear deal.
