Northern Pakistan rocked by third earthquake in a month

A seismic event shook various regions in northern Pakistan, including cities such as Peshawar, Nowshera, Shabqadar, and Mardan on Thursday afternoon, as reported by the National Seismic Monitoring Centre (NSMC). This marks the third occurrence of such an event in less than a month.

According to the NSMC, the epicenter of the earthquake was located 237 kilometers west of Chitral. Additionally, the tremor was also felt in Charsada, Islamabad, and surrounding areas and was measured at 5.6 on the Richter scale. The depth of the earthquake was measured at 190 kilometers.

The Pakistan Metrological Department also shared information about the earthquake on Twitter, stating, “An earthquake occurred on 19-01-2023 at 16:30 PST. Magnitude: 5.6. Depth: 190km. Latitude: 35.89 N. Longitude: 71.39 E. Epicenter: 37 km west of Chitral.”
