Opposition Announces Parliament Sit-In Amid Alarm Over Imran Khan’s Health

[post-views]

The opposition alliance Tehreek-i-Tahafuz-i-Ayin-i-Pakistan (TTAP) has announced a sit-in outside Parliament following revelations about former prime minister Imran Khan’s deteriorating eyesight. The protest is scheduled to begin after Friday prayers, with leaders vowing it will remain peaceful but continue until their demands are addressed.

The move comes after the Supreme Court was informed that Imran Khan has only 15 per cent vision left in his right eye. According to a report submitted by his lawyer, Salman Safdar, Khan himself stated that he had largely lost sight in that eye, regaining only limited light perception after recent treatment.

Speaking to the media, Senate Opposition Leader Allama Raja Nasir Abbas demanded that Khan be given immediate access to doctors he trusts and be shifted to a reputable hospital for specialised care. He stressed that as a prisoner in state custody, Khan’s health was the government’s responsibility. TTAP chief Mehmood Khan Achakzai said the protest would remain respectful and disciplined, urging supporters of justice to join.

PTI leaders strongly condemned what they described as negligence by jail authorities, alleging delays in proper diagnosis and treatment. They claimed that despite months of complaints, Khan was given only basic eye drops before being taken to hospital, where doctors identified a retinal occlusion.

The party has called for an independent medical board, full disclosure of medical records, and legal action against those responsible. PTI leaders argue that beyond politics, the issue concerns human rights and the state’s duty to ensure the well-being of anyone in its custody.
