Pakistan and China have reaffirmed their commitment to enhancing bilateral cooperation, focusing on counter-terrorism efforts and a wide range of other sectors. During President Asif Ali Zardari’s visit to China, discussions with Chinese leadership, including President Xi Jinping, Premier Li Qiang, and others, highlighted shared goals of regional peace and development.
A key area of focus was the strengthening of counter-terrorism measures. Both countries emphasized their zero-tolerance stance towards terrorism and pledged to further cooperation on security issues. Pakistan reiterated its commitment to protecting Chinese personnel and projects within its borders, especially in light of recent attacks involving Chinese citizens. China, in turn, commended Pakistan’s ongoing counter-terrorism efforts and expressed support for enhancing Pakistan’s capacity in this area.
In addition to security cooperation, both countries agreed to deepen their collaboration in sectors such as defense, agriculture, information technology, and trade. Pakistan and China are also set to expand their ties through the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), with plans to enhance connectivity and mutual prosperity. This includes key projects like the Karakoram Highway realignment and the upgrading of the ML-1 railway track.
Both nations expressed strong support for each other’s sovereignty, with Pakistan backing China’s position on Taiwan and regional issues like Xinjiang, Tibet, and the South China Sea. Similarly, China reiterated its support for Pakistan’s territorial integrity and efforts to maintain national security.
The partnership, described as an “all-weather strategic cooperative relationship,” was emphasized as a significant force for regional stability. Both countries agreed to continue strengthening high-level cooperation and pursue new initiatives in areas like artificial intelligence, healthcare, education, and infrastructure development.
On regional and global issues, Pakistan and China expressed shared concerns for South Asian peace and stability, with both countries calling for a peaceful resolution of the Jammu and Kashmir dispute. They also agreed on the importance of resolving the Afghanistan situation and supporting Palestinian self-determination.
In terms of economic collaboration, both countries committed to enhancing cooperation in the mining, railway, and energy sectors. Chinese investment is expected to play a key role in the development of Pakistan’s infrastructure and energy resources, including Gwadar port and offshore oil and gas projects.
This strengthening of ties builds on the long-standing partnership between Pakistan and China, which has proven resilient amidst global shifts and changing political dynamics. Both nations remain committed to mutual development, peace, and stability in the region.
