A delegation from Pakistan, led by Secretary Commerce Khurram Agha, will be visiting Kabul on Monday to hold talks on normalizing trade relations under the Afghan Transit Trade (ATT) agreement. The two-day visit aims to sort out differences and take confidence-building measures to ease tension in border areas.

According to Foreign Office Spokesperson Mumtaz Zahra Baloch, the visit is a sign of Pakistan’s commitment to promoting trade and people-to-people ties with Afghanistan. The delegation will also include Joint Secretary Ministry of Commerce Maria Qazi, Additional Secretary Commerce Dr Wajid Ali Khan, Director General Transit Trade, and Additional Secretary Interior Khushal Khan.

This will be the first high-level interaction between the two sides after recent tensions in border areas. The visit is expected to help both sides normalize overall trade issues and settle the ATT amicably. The transit trade has witnessed a declining trend in recent months.

Pakistan and Afghanistan have a history of trade relations through the ATT agreement, which allows Afghan traders to use Pakistani land routes to import goods from India and other countries. However, the trade relations have faced several challenges in recent years due to border tensions and security concerns. The visit is seen as a positive step towards resolving these issues and improving trade ties between the two countries.
