Pakistan Issues Demarche Over North Waziristan Attack

[post-views]

Pakistan on Friday issued a formal demarche to the Afghan Deputy Head of Mission, expressing grave concern over what it described as continued support and facilitation by the Afghan Taliban regime to Fitna‑Al‑Khawarij, also known as Tehreek‑e‑Taliban Pakistan. The move followed a deadly terrorist attack on a Pakistan Army camp in North Waziristan that led to the martyrdom of four soldiers.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs strongly condemned the attack, stating that militants linked to the Kharji Gul Bahadur Group attempted to breach the military camp. During the assault, an explosives-laden vehicle was rammed into the outer perimeter, causing damage to nearby civilian infrastructure, including a mosque, and injuring at least fifteen civilians, among them women and children.

Pakistan conveyed that the continued presence of such groups in Afghanistan contradicts assurances repeatedly given by the Afghan interim government that its soil would not be used against neighbouring countries. Islamabad demanded a full investigation, decisive action against the perpetrators and facilitators, and immediate, verifiable measures against all militant groups operating from Afghan territory.

The military said security forces successfully repelled the attackers and eliminated all militants involved. However, four soldiers embraced martyrdom while defending the camp. Pakistan reiterated that it reserves the right to protect its sovereignty and citizens and will respond firmly to terrorism originating from across the border.
