On the 27th anniversary of Youm-i-Takbeer, Pakistan’s civil and military leadership reaffirmed the nation’s nuclear resolve, celebrating the 1998 Chagai tests as a cornerstone of national security and sovereignty. President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif highlighted the importance of the country’s nuclear capability as a “credible minimum deterrent,” especially amid recent hostilities with India.
Prime Minister Shehbaz called the day a symbol of unity, strength, and strategic defiance. Linking the commemoration to Pakistan’s recent military response to Indian aggression, he praised the resolve of the armed forces and the sacrifices of the nation. He also honored Nawaz Sharif’s bold decision in 1998 and paid tribute to Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, Benazir Bhutto, and scientists like Dr. Abdul Qadeer Khan.
President Zardari emphasized the peaceful intent behind Pakistan’s nuclear doctrine and praised the country’s strategic restraint. Operation Bunyanum Marsoos, he noted, was a measured but effective response, proving Pakistan’s defensive readiness.
The armed forces reiterated their commitment to safeguarding national integrity and celebrated the enduring spirit behind the nuclear achievement. Across provinces, leaders echoed national pride, unity, and the importance of channeling this strength into economic development and peace.
