Pakistan Offers to Host US-Iran Peace Talks Amid Rising Middle East Tensions

[post-views]

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Tuesday said Pakistan is “ready and honoured” to host meaningful and conclusive talks between the United States and Iran, as efforts intensify to defuse the ongoing Middle East conflict. In a statement shared on X, he expressed Islamabad’s full support for dialogue aimed at restoring regional peace and stability.

The prime minister stated that, subject to agreement by both sides, Pakistan is willing to facilitate negotiations for a comprehensive settlement. His remarks came as Donald Trump shared the statement on his platform, signalling possible interest in diplomatic engagement.

Meanwhile, Pakistan’s Foreign Office urged caution, with spokesperson Tahir Andrabi advising media outlets to avoid speculation and await official announcements. He reiterated Pakistan’s consistent stance of resolving conflicts through diplomacy.

Reports from international outlets suggest Islamabad may soon host indirect talks between US envoy Steve Witkoff and Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi. Although no direct negotiations have been confirmed, backchannel diplomacy involving Pakistan, Türkiye, and Egypt has contributed to a temporary pause in US strikes on Iranian energy infrastructure.

The conflict, now in its fourth week, continues despite limited de-escalation efforts, with both sides maintaining firm positions on key demands.
