Pakistan pats itself on the back for brokering Saudi-Iran truce

Islamabad: Pakistan has taken credit for facilitating the historic trilateral dialogue that led to the widely welcomed rapprochement between two regional rivals, Saudi Arabia and Iran.

During a weekly briefing on Friday, Foreign Office Spokesperson Mumtaz Zahra Baloch revealed that Pakistan had played its part, along with several other countries and friends of both Iran and Saudi Arabia, in facilitating dialogue. Baloch recalled the first meeting between the two foreign ministers in Islamabad on the sidelines of the OIC meeting.

Welcoming the development, Baloch said, “This agreement was a result of China’s mediation efforts and constructive talks it facilitated, leading to the resolution of their differences.”

She further added, “While Pakistan congratulates China on its successful diplomatic efforts, it does not wish to take away any credit from China in this historic agreement.”

Pakistan had earlier applauded the normalisation of diplomatic relations between the two countries, commending China’s visionary leadership in coordinating this agreement.
