In a statement at the 49th Session of the OIC Council of Foreign Ministers in Nouakchott, Mauritania, Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari, the Foreign Minister of Pakistan, reiterated his country’s unwavering support for Kashmir and the Kashmiris’ struggle for freedom. He emphasized that Kashmir and Pakistan were linked by geography, faith, history, and culture and vowed to provide complete political, diplomatic, and moral backing to the Kashmiri cause.

As the Chairman of the OIC CFM, Bhutto-Zardari recalled the UN Security Council’s resolution that guarantees the people of Jammu and Kashmir the right to self-determination through a UN-backed plebiscite. However, he criticized India for reneging on its commitment and resorting to fraud and force instead. He noted that India’s unilateral and illegal measures of August 5, 2019, were a clear indication of its colonial expansionist campaign’s failure.

Bhutto-Zardari praised the OIC Contact Group on Jammu and Kashmir and the OIC Secretary General and his special envoy for their significant contributions in supporting the Kashmiri people’s just cause. He expressed confidence that the OIC Contact Group, when it convenes later, would devise an effective plan to advance the Kashmiri cause.

The Foreign Minister emphasized that the resolution of the Kashmir issue was crucial for lasting peace between Pakistan and India.
