Pakistan has dismissed India’s assertion that Jammu and Kashmir is an “integral part” of India, asserting that the disputed status of the region is internationally recognized, including by the United Nations. Speaking at a UN Security Council meeting, Pakistani diplomat Gul Qaiser Sarvani emphasized that every official UN map recognizes Jammu and Kashmir as disputed territory.
Sarvani’s statement was made in response to Indian Ambassador Parvathaneni Harish’s claim that Kashmir has always been and will always remain an inseparable part of India. The Pakistani delegate firmly rebutted this claim, reinforcing that the final status of the region should be determined by the people of Jammu and Kashmir through a UN-supervised plebiscite, in line with numerous Security Council resolutions.
Sarvani also highlighted India’s heavy military presence in Kashmir, noting that over 900,000 troops have been deployed to suppress the Kashmiri population, resulting in more than 100,000 civilian deaths since 1989. He condemned India’s human rights violations and described the situation as one of the most severe occupations in modern history.
Furthermore, Sarvani rejected India’s accusations of cross-border terrorism, accusing India of committing “state terrorism” in occupied Kashmir. He criticized India’s attempts to label legitimate freedom struggles as terrorism while allegedly supporting militant groups that target Pakistan.
In his response, Sarvani called on India to reflect on its own role in fomenting violence and instability both domestically and abroad.
