ISLAMABAD, May 25, 2025 — The Government of Pakistan will now register FIRs and cancel passports of deported citizens, the Interior Ministry announced on Saturday, as part of a stricter policy to curb growing international embarrassment caused by deportations.

The decision was taken during a high-level meeting chaired by Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, where officials agreed to take tougher action against Pakistanis expelled from foreign countries.

“It was decided during the meeting that First Information Reports (FIRs) will be registered against all deportees, and their passports will be canceled,” the Interior Ministry said in an official statement.

The statement further added that such individuals will be placed on the Passport Control List for a period of five years, effectively banning them from obtaining new passports or traveling abroad during that time.

To implement these changes, a special committee will be formed under the Interior Secretary to revise and strengthen passport regulations in light of growing concerns about misuse and fraudulent documentation.

Interior Minister Naqvi emphasized the gravity of the issue, stating that deportees have repeatedly caused embarrassment for Pakistan on the international stage. “No leniency will be shown to them in the future,” he warned.

The policy shift comes amid increasing deportations, particularly from Gulf countries. Notably, over 4,000 Pakistani beggars were deported from Saudi Arabia in the last three years alone, raising serious concerns about human trafficking and visa misuse.

The new measures reflect the government’s intent to restore Pakistan’s international image and introduce greater accountability for those involved in illegal immigration or activities abroad.
