Pakistan said Friday that it would welcome US assistance in resolving the Jammu and Kashmir problem, which Islamabad has been attempting to resolve with India since 1947.
The two nuclear-armed nations severed ties in 2019 when the Narendra Modi administration withdrew occupied Kashmir’s special status and has since continued its relentless terrorism in the Himalayan region.
Foreign Office Spokesperson Mumtaz Zahra Baloch told journalists at a weekly briefing in Islamabad: “Regarding the Pakistan-India relations and the facilitation by third parties, including the United States, Pakistan has always stated that we would welcome their role in promoting peace in the region, including in facilitating dialogue and resolution of the core dispute between Pakistan and India, i.e. the Jammu and Kashmir dispute.
The spokesman was replying to a query on a recent comment made by Masood Khan, Pakistan’s ambassador to the US, in which he suggested that America may mediate a settlement to the Kashmir problem.
