Planning Minister Ahsan Iqbal announced on Monday that the government will unveil the National Economic Transformation Plan for the next five years. According to Radio Pakistan, the plan will be officially launched tomorrow.

In a 2022 briefing, Iqbal presented the former government’s four-point strategy for revitalizing Pakistan’s economy, which included increasing exports, encouraging foreign investment, improving the tax-to-GDP ratio, and addressing the challenges faced by loss-making government-owned industries.

Earlier in April, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif emphasized the need for a comprehensive strategy to double the country’s exports, highlighting the importance of collaboration between the Ministry of Trade, successful entrepreneurs, and key stakeholders.

Iqbal explained that the National Economic Transformation Plan is built around several critical factors necessary for Pakistan’s future development. He stressed the importance of an export-driven economy and the development of emerging sectors such as e-commerce, automation, nanotechnology, and artificial intelligence. These industries, he argued, will reshape Pakistan’s economic future.

In his address at the 47th Specialised Training Programme of Pakistan Administration Service in Lahore, Iqbal highlighted that Pakistan must integrate its human resources with new technologies to succeed. He also urged civil servants to view their roles as a serious responsibility and to utilize their capabilities to better manage public affairs.
