Pakistan, US Strengthen Counter-Narcotics Cooperation

Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi met Acting US Ambassador Natalie Baker on Saturday to discuss enhancing bilateral cooperation in counter-narcotics, security, and preventing illegal immigration. Both sides agreed to strengthen collaboration in drug interdiction, intelligence sharing, and joint technical support for operations against narcotics and human trafficking.

Minister Naqvi highlighted Pakistan’s zero-tolerance policy against narcotics and emphasized detecting drug smuggling at airports as a top priority. He confirmed installation of advanced scanning machines nationwide and announced the upcoming establishment of the National Narcotics Coordination Centre under the Prime Minister’s directives.

The Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) briefing revealed that in the past year, 134 tons of narcotics were seized, 2,001 suspects including 75 foreign nationals were arrested, and drugs worth $12.797 billion were confiscated. Operations in Balochistan, KP, and Sindh cleared 40,659 acres to maintain a poppy-free status and arrested 110 Afghan nationals.

The US ambassador appreciated ANF’s performance and reaffirmed continued support. Naqvi said Pakistan-US relations remain vital for regional peace and stability, stressing Pakistan’s commitment to strengthening long-standing bilateral ties.
