ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Uzbekistan President Shavkat Mirziyoyev on Friday called on business communities from both countries to work toward a bilateral trade target of $2 billion within the next five years.
Speaking at the Pakistan-Uzbekistan Business Forum in Islamabad during President Mirziyoyev’s visit, the leaders emphasized turning political goodwill into tangible economic results. Sharif highlighted that last year’s talks in Tashkent had boosted annual trade to nearly $450 million and stressed that new agreements would create opportunities for joint ventures, investments, and B2B collaboration.
The two countries signed a protocol to establish a joint working group to develop a five-year action plan, alongside 28 agreements covering defense, climate change, agriculture, fruit exports, and mining.
President Mirziyoyev described the business community as the “most important bridge” linking the two nations and pledged to remove obstacles to trade.
Later, Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari awarded Mirziyoyev the Nishan-e-Pakistan, the country’s highest civilian honor, recognizing his contributions to strengthening bilateral relations and fostering regional cooperation.
