Pakistani security forces successfully thwarted an infiltration attempt by khawarij militants and the Afghan Taliban, who launched an unprovoked joint attack on Pakistani border posts. The attempted infiltration occurred in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Kurram and North Waziristan regions, where 20 to 25 militants targeted Pakistani positions using heavy weaponry, according to security sources.
In a swift and decisive response, Pakistani forces not only neutralized the infiltration but also launched a counterattack, killing over 15 militants, including Afghan Taliban members, and injuring several others. The attack forced the Afghan Taliban to retreat, abandoning six posts along the border, with reports indicating significant casualties on the Afghan side.

Despite the heavy exchange, Pakistan’s security forces reported no fatalities, with only three soldiers sustaining injuries. This incident is part of an ongoing surge in terrorist attacks inside Pakistan, particularly in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan, which share a border with Afghanistan. The increase in violence has intensified since the Afghan Taliban took control of Kabul.
Pakistan has repeatedly called on the Afghan government to prevent its territory from being used by terrorist groups targeting Pakistan, with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif stating that the killing of innocent civilians by groups like the TTP is a “red line.”
Amid these threats, Pakistan’s security forces continue to engage in counterterrorism operations, having eliminated 13 terrorists in recent operations in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and South Waziristan earlier this week. The violence has led to a sharp increase in fatalities, with 722 people killed and 615 injured in terrorist attacks and security operations between July and September 2024, marking a 90% rise in violent incidents in the region.
