Dubai-based banker and mother of two, Naila Kiani, has made history by becoming the first woman from Pakistan to summit the 8,091m high Annapurna I mountain in Nepal. Along with Pakistani mountaineer Shahroz Kashif, Kiani scaled the world’s tenth highest peak on Monday morning between 6:30am to 7:00am.
The six-member team included two Pakistanis and India’s Arjun Vajpayee. Kiani’s expedition organisers, Seven Summit Treks, announced her summit. She has now become the first Pakistani woman to conquer four peaks of over 8,000m, having earlier summited K2, G1 and G2. Kiani’s next aim is to climb Mt. Everest, the world’s highest mountain, and Lhotse, which is 8,516m tall, during her current visit to Nepal.
In another achievement, Shehroze has become the youngest mountaineer in the world to summit eleven peaks above 8000 meters. Alpine Club of Pakistan secretary Karrar Haidri stated that it is inspiring to witness Pakistani climbers setting new records in mountaineering.
