A technical glitch within the United Kingdom’s air traffic control system wreaked havoc on Monday, causing significant delays and cancellations for hundreds of flights and stranding numerous passengers. Here are the most recent developments on the matter.
On what is undeniably one of the busiest travel days of the year, travelers have received advice to verify whether their flights have been impacted.
The National Air Traffic Services (NATS) promptly issued an apology for the malfunction shortly after noon. Subsequently, they announced that they had successfully pinpointed and rectified the problem, which had been impeding their “capacity to automatically process flight plans.”
Engineers will continue to closely monitor the system’s performance as it gradually returns to its standard operations, as per their statement.
Earlier, it was emphasized that “UK airspace remains open; however, we have had to implement air traffic flow constraints to ensure the ongoing safety of operations.”
