Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has instructed authorities to take strict action against the protesters responsible for the deaths and injuries of law enforcement officers, as well as damage to public property during the November 24 sit-in protests in Islamabad.

This directive came during a meeting of the task force set up to investigate the violent clashes that erupted during a Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) rally. The task force is tasked with identifying and prosecuting those involved in the unrest.

Over 10,000 PTI protesters had gathered despite a ban on public assemblies, leading to clashes with security forces. Riot police used tear gas as protesters approached the barricaded D-Chowk area. Although PTI leaders called off the sit-in, the violence has escalated tensions in the capital.

During the meeting, PM Sharif emphasized the importance of weekly updates on the legal actions taken against those involved in the riots. He also condemned the violence, particularly as it occurred during the official visit of the Belarusian president, calling it a major embarrassment for the country.

Looking ahead, the prime minister announced plans to create a world-class anti-riot force and upgrade the Islamabad Safe City project to meet international standards. This will include setting up a new forensic lab to help address contemporary security challenges.

Additionally, the authorities are collecting evidence, including weapons and ammunition, for forensic analysis and are working quickly to identify the rioters, who will soon face legal action in court.

The meeting was attended by senior government officials, including Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar.
