Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif praised the World Bank’s $20 billion funding program for Pakistan, calling it a “timely intervention” to address critical challenges such as economic recovery, poverty reduction, digitization, and climate change. Speaking at the launch of the World Bank’s Country Partnership Framework for Pakistan (2026–2035) in Islamabad on January 23, 2025, the PM hailed the initiative as a milestone in the country’s collaboration with the global financial institution.

“This is a historic day for Pakistan’s partnership with the World Bank,” he remarked, emphasizing the bank’s decades-long support in areas like hydropower development and institutional reforms, including modernizing the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR).
The prime minister described the program as a transformative vision aimed at building a resilient economy, reducing poverty, enhancing climate resilience, and advancing digital and IT-led initiatives across agriculture and other key sectors. He also highlighted that this decade-long commitment reflects the World Bank’s confidence in Pakistan’s potential.

PM Shehbaz noted that his government is undertaking long-overdue structural reforms in state-run institutions, a task he admitted should have been addressed years ago. He pointed to significant progress in the digitization of the country’s revenue system, which is now on a fast track to completion.
