PM Shehbaz must take vote with confidence: Imran Khan

In an apparent tit-for-tat move, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan stated on Saturday that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif will face a trust vote.

The remark comes after the Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) threatened to abandon the center-right coalition government, whose votes are critical to keeping the incumbent prime minister in power.

MQM-P had threatened to quit the federal government if their concerns about delimitations in Karachi and Hyderabad were not addressed ahead of the January 15 local government elections.

However, in an effort to keep them in the alliance, Prime Minister Shehbaz, Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari, and Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) head Maulana Fazlur Rehman told the MQM-P that their concerns would be addressed.
