Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif on Sunday vowed that the government will take all necessary steps to safeguard public interests and ensure economic stability amid ongoing international challenges. Speaking at a high-level meeting in Lahore, the premier emphasised prudent management of national resources and timely implementation of measures to stabilise the economy.
He assured that once the challenging phase passes, the government will extend maximum relief to the people. PM Shehbaz underlined that austerity and simplicity must be observed by all government employees, ministers, and senior officials, calling on the elite and privileged segments of society to lead by example in sharing the burden of necessary adjustments.
The meeting included a detailed briefing on global developments and their potential impact on Pakistan’s economy, particularly regarding energy supply and fluctuating international prices. Officials highlighted proactive steps being taken to mitigate economic risks.
The premier stressed that austerity instructions will not affect the industry and agriculture sectors, ensuring that production, exports, and food security remain uninterrupted. He also reassured that the country maintains adequate reserves of diesel, petrol, and other petroleum products, with contingency plans in place to address any emergency. The government’s approach, he said, is focused on balancing necessary fiscal discipline with protecting the well-being of citizens and maintaining overall economic resilience.
