PM Shehbaz Sharif Advocates Enhanced Cooperation with Russia

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif highlighted the significant opportunities for collaboration between Russia and Pakistan across various sectors during his meeting today with Valentina Matviyenko, the Speaker of the Federation Council of Russia. He extended his best wishes to President Vladimir Putin and invited him to visit Pakistan soon.

The leaders discussed ways to enhance banking channels to promote trade and investment, as well as the development of a comprehensive roadmap for the economic partnership between the two nations. Sharif noted that recent visits by Russian leaders signal a hopeful trend in reinforcing Pakistan-Russia relations.

He expressed optimism that the upcoming Joint Commission meeting in December would serve as a pivotal moment for expanding cooperation.

In a separate meeting on Tuesday, Matviyenko affirmed that Russia aims to bolster bilateral cooperation in areas like trade, investment, and diplomacy. Both sides focused on enhancing diplomatic, economic, commercial, and parliamentary relations.

Matviyenko acknowledged the importance of strengthening parliamentary ties to foster trade and cultural connections between the two countries. Meanwhile, Senate Chairman Syed Yousuf Raza Gillani remarked that her visit would invigorate relations and contribute to regional peace, development, and prosperity, expressing gratitude for Russia’s support in Pakistan’s infrastructure, oil, and gas sectors.
