PM Shehbaz Sharif to Visit Washington for Inaugural Board of Peace Session

[post-views]

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif will travel to Washington, D.C. on February 19, 2026, at the invitation of US President Donald J. Trump to attend the inaugural session of the Board of Peace (BOP), the Foreign Ministry confirmed. He will be joined by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar, along with other senior officials and ministers.

During the visit, Sharif is expected to engage with senior US officials and counterparts from other nations, discussing bilateral ties as well as regional and global issues of mutual interest. A key focus will be Pakistan’s potential participation in the International Stabilisation Force (ISF) under the US-led Gaza plan, which aims to oversee reconstruction and economic recovery in Palestine.

Sources close to the prime minister emphasized that Pakistan’s troops would participate solely in peacekeeping and reconstruction efforts, with no involvement in disarming Hamas. Islamabad has indicated readiness to deploy a contingent of a few thousand troops, pending clarity on the mission’s mandate, chain of command, and operational scope.

Sharif has previously met Trump in Davos and at the White House, and it is expected he may have a direct audience with the US president either during or shortly after the BOP meeting. The visit underscores Pakistan’s role as a potential contributor to international peacekeeping initiatives.
