Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif visited the Chinese Embassy in Islamabad on Wednesday to express his disapproval of a shooting in which two Chinese people were injured in Karachi. He spoke with China’s Ambassador to Pakistan, Jiang Zaidong, saying, “I’ve come to condemn the attack and check on the injured.”
The shooting occurred on Tuesday in Karachi’s SITE Industrial Area, following several similar attacks that prompted China to demand better protection for its citizens. A hospital spokesperson reported one of the injured was in serious condition.
During the meeting, PM Shehbaz reassured the ambassador that those responsible would be caught and punished quickly, stating, “I am personally overseeing the process.” He mentioned that the health of the injured Chinese nationals is improving and emphasized the strong friendship between Pakistan and China.
He condemned the attack as a terrible act against their relations and insisted that securing Chinese workers in Pakistan is a priority for the government. The Chinese ambassador thanked the prime minister for his visit and expressed hope that justice would be served soon.
Government officials, including Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar and Interior Minister Mohsin Raza Naqvi, accompanied the prime minister. Pakistan’s foreign ministry also condemned the shooting, promising that they are working closely with the interior ministry and the Chinese embassy for a thorough investigation.
Last month, a terrorist attack near Karachi’s Jinnah International Airport resulted in the deaths of two Chinese nationals and injuries to nine people. This attack targeted a convoy of Chinese workers, leading China to demand a detailed investigation.
