Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, accompanied by senior civilian and military leaders, visited the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) headquarters on Tuesday for an in-depth security briefing amidst escalating tensions with India. The Prime Minister’s Office issued a statement detailing the visit, highlighting the importance of the meeting in the current geopolitical context.
During the visit, PM Shehbaz praised the professionalism and strategic insight of the ISI, acknowledging its critical role in safeguarding Pakistan’s national interests and enabling informed decision-making in complex security situations. The briefing was held against the backdrop of India’s increasingly provocative stance, particularly concerning its actions in Kashmir.
The Prime Minister was joined by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, Defence Minister Khawaja Asif, and the top military leadership, including Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Syed Asim Munir. The purpose of the visit was to receive a comprehensive update on the prevailing security situation, with an emphasis on Pakistan’s preparedness in the face of conventional military threats from India.
According to the statement, the leadership was briefed on the regional security dynamics, evolving threat scenarios, and the potential for both conventional military engagements and hybrid warfare tactics, which may include the use of terrorist proxies by adversaries.
