PM Shehbaz to Attend US Board of Peace Meeting, FO Confirms

[post-views]

The Foreign Office confirmed on Thursday that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif will travel to the United States to attend the upcoming meeting of President Donald Trump’s Board of Peace. FO spokesperson Tahir Andrabi said the prime minister will lead Pakistan’s delegation and will be accompanied by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar. Further details about the delegation and schedule will be shared later.

Pakistan is among 14 founding members of the Board of Peace, which was formally established last month after being proposed in 2025. The board, headquartered in Washington, was authorised through a UN Security Council resolution to help oversee stabilisation efforts in Gaza following a fragile ceasefire between Israel and Hamas. However, critics have questioned the board’s structure, particularly the absence of Palestinian representation.

Responding to concerns, Andrabi said Pakistan joined the initiative in good faith, alongside several Islamic countries, to advocate for Palestinian rights and a long-term solution based on pre-1967 borders with القدس as the capital.

He also reiterated Pakistan’s appreciation for the US role during the 2025 conflict with India, claiming Pakistani forces shot down several Indian Rafale jets. On cricket diplomacy, Andrabi said politicising sports was regrettable, adding that Pakistan’s decision to play against India reflected goodwill and respect for the spirit of the game.
