Free and fair elections are one of the indicators of political morality, as they reflect the will of the people and their participation in the political process. Free and fair elections require that all eligible voters have equal access to voting, that there is no intimidation or coercion of voters, that there is a secret ballot, that there is an independent and impartial electoral commission, that there is a fair and transparent counting of votes, and that there is a peaceful transfer of power. Free and fair elections can enhance the legitimacy, accountability and responsiveness of the government and foster trust and confidence among the citizens.
