A powerful earthquake struck the western region of Jajarkot in Nepal, resulting in at least 132 fatalities and numerous injuries, according to officials on Saturday. The seismic event caused the collapse of houses, and its tremors were felt as far away as New Delhi, India.
The earthquake, which occurred at 11:47 pm (1802 GMT) on Friday, had a magnitude of 6.4, as reported by Nepal’s National Seismological Centre. However, the German Research Centre for Geosciences revised its measurement to 5.7, downgrading it from the initial 6.2. The US Geological Survey estimated the quake’s magnitude at 5.6, as per Reuters.
This marks the deadliest earthquake since 2015, when two earthquakes in Nepal claimed the lives of approximately 9,000 individuals in the Himalayan nation.
