The Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) has raised concerns over Senator Ishaq Dar’s role as the leader of the house in the Senate, questioning the nature of his appointment within the interim government. According to a report in The News published on Sunday, the PPP has called for clarification on Dar’s capacity in this position, suggesting that it indicates an alliance between the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and the caretaker administration.
PPP Secretary-General Syed Nayyer Hussain Bokhari has expressed his reservations about why an independent senator was not selected by the interim government for the role of representing the leader of the house in the Senate, as is the customary practice. He emphasized that the Leader of the House in the Senate serves as the representative of the prime minister in the upper house and questioned the caretaker government’s choice not to appoint an independent senator for this position.
Bokhari also highlighted the close associations between caretaker Federal Minister Ahad Cheema, Fawad Hasan Fawad, and PML-N leaders such as Nawaz Sharif and Shehbaz Sharif. He noted the Punjab governor’s affiliation with the PML-N, raising concerns about potential political alignments within the caretaker setup.
