Precautionary Measures Directed at Airports in Pakistan Following Monkeypox Case

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

The Pakistan Civil Aviation Authority (PCAA) has taken action to safeguard against the spread of monkeypox at airports in response to a reported case of the infectious viral disease in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. With concerns about the virus’s increased transmissibility, the PCAA has instructed airlines to provide masks to passengers arriving from abroad.

Additionally, airline and ground handling staff are now required to wear masks, and all individuals are expected to sanitize their hands and have their luggage disinfected. Anyone displaying symptoms of monkeypox is to be isolated. Efforts to trace an infected individual who had traveled from Saudi Arabia and had been difficult to locate are ongoing, with the national health ministry conducting contact tracing and monitoring airport surveillance. The sequencing of the confirmed patient’s sample is currently underway to identify the strain of the monkeypox virus.
