President Asif Ali Zardari has approved the Prime Minister’s summary for key military leadership positions, marking a significant reshuffle at the top of Pakistan’s armed forces. Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, currently serving as Chief of Army Staff, has been appointed concurrently as Chief of Defence Forces for a term of five years. This dual role positions him at the helm of Pakistan’s defence establishment, overseeing strategic and operational military affairs.
In addition, the President has sanctioned a two-year extension in the service of Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmad Babar Sidhu, Chief of Air Staff. His extended tenure will commence after the completion of his current term on 19 March 2026, ensuring continuity in leadership within the Pakistan Air Force.
President Zardari conveyed his best wishes to both the Chief of Army Staff, now also the Chief of Defence Forces, and the Chief of Air Staff, expressing confidence in their continued service and leadership.
