ISLAMABAD: President Arif Alvi has volunteered to intervene between the Shehbaz Sharif-led government and the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) to defuse the country’s escalating political tensions.
In an interview with a private news channel on Thursday, Arif Alivi, a close adviser to PTI Chairman Imran Khan, stated that it is now unavoidable to defuse the brewing tension and recommended the political leadership to conduct discussions.
“It is my invitation to them [political parties] to meet together and then hold negotiations,” Dr Alvi stated. The president, who has had many rounds of negotiations with federal ministers in the past, stated that the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) administration is employing delaying tactics with regards to PTI, adding that “there’s no contact between the two parties in the last one month”.
Dr. Alvi went on to say that while the administration has stated its desire to engage negotiations with the PTI, no results have emerged.
