In a significant diplomatic development for Pakistan, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has succeeded in securing visits from the emirs of Qatar and Kuwait. The Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim ibn Hamad Al Thani, accepted the invitation to visit during a meeting with Qatar’s Ambassador to Pakistan, Ali Mubarak Ali Essa Al-Khater, in Islamabad. Similarly, the Emir of Kuwait, Mishal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, accepted the invitation during a separate meeting with Kuwait’s Ambassador to Pakistan, Nassar Abdulrahman Jasser Almutairi.
During these meetings, both envoys presented letters to the Prime Minister, expressing the emirs’ intentions to visit Pakistan on mutually agreed dates. The Prime Minister also highlighted his recent meeting with the Kuwaiti emir on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum’s special meeting in Riyadh last month and expressed satisfaction that the upcoming meeting of the Pakistan-Kuwait Joint Ministerial Commission would take place in Kuwait from May 28 to 30.
In the meeting with the Qatari ambassador, the Prime Minister emphasized Pakistan’s profound appreciation for its historic fraternal relations with Qatar and reiterated Pakistan’s unwavering commitment to further strengthening mutual cooperation between the two brotherly nations.
Pakistan holds good relations with both the Gulf countries and has been actively engaging in diplomatic efforts to enhance bilateral ties. In March, Prime Minister Shehbaz extended an invitation to the Emir of Kuwait to visit Pakistan at his earliest convenience. During the meeting, he also sought the implementation of bilateral agreements worth $10 billion inked between Pakistan and Kuwait in November last year and called for concerted efforts from both sides to ensure the early implementation of these agreements. The Prime Minister emphasized that Pakistan attaches great importance to its historic and deep-rooted ties with Kuwait.
These successful invitations and the forthcoming visits of the emirs of Qatar and Kuwait mark a significant stride in Pakistan’s diplomatic relations with the Gulf countries and are expected to further strengthen the bilateral ties and mutual cooperation between the nations.
