Over the weekend, the ruling alliance found itself under fire from PTI (Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf) leaders. This was in response to the victory of the presidential election of PPP (Pakistan Peoples Party) Co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari. The PTI leaders, labeling the election as “illegal”, expressed their dissatisfaction. Mahmood Khan Achakzai, the PTI-backed Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC) presidential candidate, had a different perspective. He hailed the election as historic, emphasizing the absence of vote buying or selling, a first for such a crucial position.
After the election, PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan directly criticized Zardari, referring to him as the “king of corrupt elements.” Khan asserted that Zardari’s imposition on the country was unacceptable.
PTI Leader Asad Qaiser has raised serious questions about the entire election process, deeming it controversial. He argues that presidential elections are illegal due to incomplete legislation resulting from the non-allocation of reserved seats for women and minorities to the SIC. PTI is preparing for a legal battle and seeking justice from the people.
Barrister Ali Zafar questioned how individuals were allowed to vote when reserved seats were still under court scrutiny. This raised concerns about the legitimacy of the voting process. PTI leaders accused the ruling coalition of acquiring positions through questionable means. They claimed that even Shehbaz Sharif became the prime minister by allegedly stealing elections. PTI General Secretary Omar Ayub Khan emphasized that those rejected by the people should not be given positions illegitimately. Barrister Gohar reiterated that occupying constitutional positions unconstitutionally violates the country’s fundamental law.
PTI is concerned about the growing influence of two prominent families—the Sharifs and Zardari. They believe that these families not only control the country’s resources but also exert influence over democratic institutions.
Lastly, the presidential election has sparked controversy, legal battles, and concerns about democratic processes in Pakistan. The PTI leaders remain vigilant in their pursuit of justice and accountability.
