Barrister Gohar Ali Khan, the former chairman of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), announced that the party would challenge the Election Commission of Pakistan’s (ECP) decision to revoke its claim on the ‘bat’ symbol. The ECP had deemed PTI’s intra-party polls “unconstitutional” and stripped them of their iconic symbol.
Khan, speaking to journalists outside Adiala Jail, stated that PTI would file a petition on Tuesday morning to regain the ‘bat’ symbol. He believes the ECP’s efforts are aimed at depriving PTI of the 227 reserved seats, which play a crucial role in electing the president, prime minister, and other key officials.
He expressed confidence that the order would be overturned in court, calling it “unsustainable and contradictory.” Khan also emphasized that Imran Khan remains the chairman of PTI and he, as the lawyer, will fulfill his responsibilities until Khan’s release from jail.
Aleema Khan, Khan’s sister, also announced plans to file cases in the US and UK tomorrow against her brother’s detention. She believes the ongoing legal proceedings are politically motivated and aimed at keeping PTI out of politics.
The PTI alleges that their candidates are being prevented from submitting nomination papers for the upcoming general elections, creating an unfair playing field. Khan warns that such unfair elections could lead to chaos and anarchy in the country.
The situation remains tense as PTI challenges the ECP’s decision and faces legal battles both within Pakistan and internationally. The outcome of these legal proceedings could significantly impact the upcoming elections and the future of PTI in Pakistani politics.
