In response to the formal indictment of former ISI chief Lieutenant General (retd) Faiz Hamid on several charges, including political involvement and breaches of the Official Secrets Act, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan clarified that his party has no connection to the case.
Faiz Hamid is facing multiple accusations, and the army has initiated a court-martial process against him under the Pakistan Army Act. This was officially announced by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) on Tuesday.
During an interview with Geo News, Gohar Ali Khan emphasized that PTI has consistently stated that the charges against General (retd) Faiz are an internal military matter. He reiterated that the party is not involved in the proceedings, as the military conducts its trials according to its own rules and regulations.
Commenting on Faiz’s arrest, former Prime Minister Imran Khan, who was ousted in 2022, expressed support for an open trial, calling for media access to ensure transparency. He also remarked that the military should continue with its internal accountability process while ensuring fairness.
Regarding PTI’s civil disobedience movement, Barrister Gohar confirmed that it is led by party founder Imran Khan. The movement will be further discussed with him, especially following Khan’s recent warning on December 6 about launching the movement if the government does not meet his demands, including a judicial inquiry into the crackdown on party supporters.
