The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) launched nationwide protest rallies on the second anniversary of Imran Khan’s imprisonment, despite Section 144 bans in Islamabad and Rawalpindi. Law enforcement agencies conducted crackdowns and arrests, including of PTI leader Usman Dar’s mother, Rehana Dar, to stop the demonstrations.
PTI Punjab issued a 12-page white paper accusing the government of political persecution, human rights violations, and filing over 186 politically motivated FIRs against Khan since August 2023. It highlighted controversial convictions in the Toshakhana, cipher, and Al-Qadir Trust cases, alleging closed-door trials and constitutional violations.
At a press conference, PTI leaders Shayan Bashir and Barrister Ali Zafar vowed to hold peaceful protests, warning of larger demonstrations if Khan’s family remains barred from visiting him. They condemned widespread raids, detentions, and coercive tactics against workers.
The party demanded the immediate release of Imran Khan, Bushra Bibi, and all political prisoners, along with annulment of politicized convictions and fair retrials under independent judicial oversight. PTI also called for a judicial commission to investigate police brutality, custodial torture, and attacks on peaceful protests.
