PTI Protesters Head Towards Islamabad Amid Rising Tensions; Government Vows Action After Policeman’s Death

[post-views]

On Monday, protesters from the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) crossed the Islamabad Toll Plaza, continuing their march towards the federal capital despite heavy security measures and roadblocks. The protest, which was initially planned for November 24, saw convoys pause the previous night as PTI leaders stated they were “not in a hurry” to reach Islamabad for their high-stakes ‘do or die’ protest. However, protesters from across the country defied arrests, baton charges, and tear gas to continue their push for change.

In the capital, all roads leading to the Red Zone, except Margalla Road, were blocked as part of the government’s efforts to contain the protest. Despite the security clampdown, PTI leaders struggled to mobilize supporters effectively in Punjab and Islamabad. Police forces swiftly intervened, using batons and tear gas, and arrested dozens in multiple cities.

A post on X (formerly Twitter) from PTI Islamabad showed Barrister Gohar, a senior party leader, firmly stating, “This is Khan sahib’s final call, there is no such thing as calling this off.”

The protest is seen as a crucial moment for PTI as they push for key demands, including the release of former Prime Minister Imran Khan, the return of their election mandate, and the annulment of the 26th Constitutional Amendment. As the march progresses, PTI’s leadership is calling for massive public support to achieve their goals. The government, on the other hand, has vowed to take strong action against those responsible for the recent death of a policeman during the protests.
