The Punjab Agriculture Department has announced a significant initiative to support farmers, providing agricultural machinery and equipment worth billions of rupees at a generous 60% subsidy as part of the chief minister’s mechanized farming program. Individual farmers can benefit from subsidies of up to PKR 500,000.
To maintain transparency in the selection process, district-level lotteries are being held with the participation of elected representatives, ensuring fair allocation based on set quotas. A balloting event took place today in Multan to choose farmers who will receive the subsidized equipment.
From the 305 applications submitted across nine centers in the Multan district, 238 were eligible for the subsidy. A transparent lottery system was utilized to select 27 farmers who will each receive the subsidized machinery.

Rana Ejaz Ahmed Noon, a former member of the Provincial Assembly, was the chief guest at the Multan event. He highlighted that the Transforming Punjab Agriculture Plan, introduced by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, is a groundbreaking effort aimed at increasing crop productivity through mechanization. “This subsidy program reflects the Punjab government’s dedication to supporting farmers,” he stated.
Noon added that mechanized farming is poised to greatly enhance agricultural efficiency by allowing farmers to tackle tasks such as land preparation and harvesting more effectively and on time.
Haris Abdullah, the Director of Agricultural Engineering, mentioned that successful applicants will have the opportunity to choose their preferred agricultural implements or machinery.
