Punjab Launches Modern Anti-Smog System

LAHORE – Punjab has introduced its first-ever modern smog forecasting and climate monitoring system, which shows that the smog situation is currently under control. This system will now provide early warnings about winter smog and weather conditions for the first time in the province’s history.

Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has directed strict implementation of anti-smog measures, assigning Senior Provincial Minister Maryam Aurangzeb to oversee a province-wide operation. Air quality is being monitored continuously, and “Suthra Punjab” teams have been activated across major cities.

Air quality readings show Lahore at 152, Gujranwala 160, Faisalabad 156, and Multan 139, while Murree recorded the cleanest air at 48. With daytime temperatures around 35°C and nighttime near 25°C, dry weather and northern winds are keeping pollution levels relatively low.

Authorities have banned open garbage burning and ordered covering of construction debris. Police and agencies have been instructed to assist in anti-smog operations, including sprinkling of water and strict action against violators. With 43 modern monitoring stations installed across Punjab, officials say the province now leads in environmental management.
